Episode 12 Conversations over Milk & Cookies - Dawn Skyy

Welcome to Episode 12 of Conversations over Milk & Cookies hosted by Kindle Ninja.

What is this madness, you ask?

It's my way of supporting authors and writers from the RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB

We interact with them everyday, directly through tweets, or indirectly through re-tweets, but we don't really know much about them. Their personalities really don't shine through in 140 characters.

All the EPISODES of Conversations over Milk & Cookies can be found HERE.  Or you can just look to your right and you'll find the Quick Links.

In this episode, we get up close and personal with Author DAWN SKYY (@Dawn_skyy).

Dawn is the author of Cross-Eyed Part One.

Let's get to know Dawn in more than 140 characters, shall we?

+No ninjas were hurt in making this episode.

KINDLE NINJA (KN):  Welcome to Conversations over Milk and Cookies. How do you like your cookies? Chewy? Crunchy? Crumbly? Something else?
Dawn Skyy: Personally, I'm not into milk and cookies. I prefer a glass of sweet Merlot ("Jam Jar" from South Africa) and some organic New Zealand Cheddar cheese.

KINDLE NINJA: You’re in luck! We have that in the RRBC pantry. (Just be careful not to set off the alarm).

You work the midnight shift with cops. Do you carry a weapon with you right now?
I work the midnight shift in a New York City precinct as a clerical worker. I handle all of the paperwork and computer work, data entry, and I also assist the public who either come in person to file complaints or call on the phone. There is absolutely no need for me to carry a weapon.

If “none” to #2, what’s the weapon you’d use against a ninja (if he misbehaves)?
Bear spray.

Writers are known to have writing rituals, habits, or quirks. What’s yours?
I really don't have one. The reason being I do so much of my writing on the go now. Two years ago, I was bound to my desk at home and my laptop. Back then I would set my desk up with a drink, snacks and the proper music to write by. And of course my cats at my feet. Yes, I have pictures of that as proof.

Now that I have a tablet and cellphone both are equipped with Wi-Fi I can write anywhere, as long as I have some quiet time.

One ritual I DO maintain is when I suffer from the dreaded Writer’s Block, if I am home I get off the house. I either jog, powerwalk, shop, or go on a photo expedition. By the time I return home I am ready to write.

If you were to sing an old school Rn’B tune right now, what song would it be.
Stevie Wonder's "Superstition".

If you had a tattoo, where would it be?
On my right shoulder, and like Russell Cross, a character in "Cross-Eyed:Part One" it would be a cross.

Will you let me see it?
Of course.

You are a runner, power walker, weight trainer, and amateur health guru. Looks like you can kick ninja’s ass. Can you?
Remember what Harrison Ford did to that ninja in "Raiders of the Lost Ark"?

KINDLE NINJA: Indy played dirty.

What would you rather be doing now? (instead of answering these questions).
I enjoy the fact that people want to interview me. So, I don't mind at all.

I’d assume I’m the person you’d want to drink Milk with (since you agreed to this interview), but who’s the person you’d want to have coffee with?
Dr. Ben Carson.

How do you like your coffee?
I rarely drink coffee because of its high caffeine content. I like decaffeinated green tea with honey instead.

How do you feel about doughnuts without holes?
As I've gotten older I've found there are certain things I can no longer eat. Donuts are one of them.

I’ve seen your workspace. Looks like a crime scene to me. Walk me through it.

Of course my pink laptop, is smack dab in the middle. Way over in the left is a printer (covered by piles of stuff that I need). Next to the printer is a box with more papers and program dvds, and my Big Chief Book. To my immediate left on the desk is a box of reading glasses, fire wires, and my handy-dandy mp3 player. To my right is my mouse, my lamp, a small fan, something to drink. Last but not least, in the back is my Dictionary/Thesaurus and on top of that is my Wi-Fi router. Aside from being a mess, my desk is also cat proof.

What’s the best way to decompress?
Exercise. Long walks, powerwalking, jogging.

Cross-Eyed is based on actual events, what percentage in the story is true?
Let me state for the record, Cross-Eyed is a "highly fictionalized" version of actual events. I estimate  about fifty percent is true. I had joined an actual club dedicated to an actual celebrity figure. I thought by doing so I would be supporting said figure, but once I joined it all went downhill from there. I quit because there were far too many shenanigans going on, some of which can get folks arrested and jailed. That's not what being part of a fan club is all about.

If you would take a Ninja on a holiday, where would you go?
An African Safari.

Celebrity / Author / Famous Personality you’d want to go on a date with.
After what I'd been through, I pass.

What’s the book that positively shaped you?
The Bible.

Describe your book “Cross-Eyed” in three words.
Don't be fooled.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about life right now?
I'm very excited!

Kirk or Spock?
Spock of course!

 J.K. Rowling or Stephenie Meyer?
Neither. How about Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn? I cut my reading teeth on hard hitting spy, espionage, and cop stuff. I read fluff once in a while.

Lastly:  Ninjas or Cops?
Definitely cops!

Thanks for your time. Hope you enjoyed the Q&A.

Yes I have. Thank you very much for interviewing me.
