Bring Me Sunshine by Wendy Storer (@WendyStorer) is a must read. It's heart-wrenching. It's a reality that's usually unnoticed or even ignored. Wendy evokes a keen sense of sadness and yet uplifts you in the most profound way.

The second book in the series usually re-introduces characters only briefly so there’s always a chance of not understanding certain aspects of the character dynamics.  With that said, The Night Stalker by Robert Bryndza brilliantly presented the characters in such a way that I didn’t feel like I’ve missed out on important background details. On to the review… A serial killer is on the loose and it’s up to DCI Erika Foster to find the violent, heartless, totally deranged person who’s killing male victims. The killer operates by stalking the victims first with ninja-like precision then killing them mercilessly. The weapon of choice: Suicide bag . The victims never see the killer coming. I like that the killer is revealed a bit earlier than usual. Some would say it’s easy to guess who the killer is. Ebert was considered the most influential and powerful film pundit in America. Though I don’t review films, I follow Ebert’s “relative, not absolute" approach when reviewing indie books. But sometimes, authors react as if reviews are absolute truths. The way I see it, a review is really an exercise in reaction and counter-reaction: When a book gets a glowing 5-star review... When a book gets a 4-star review... When a book gets a 3-star review...  When a book gets a 2-star review...      When a book gets a 1-star review  And the ultimate reaction when a book is marked 'DID NOT FINISH' (or DNF) ...

REVIEW: The Betrayal - Family Wars, Glasgow-style

THE BETRAYAL by Linda Tweedie The Coyles and The McClellands – two feuding families intoxicated by power and fueled by revenge. The hatred for each other have sparked bloody encounters that leave a trail of dead bodies, injured relatives, missing family members, and an incarcerated scion. Though the Coyles appear to have a united front, the dysfunctional family dynamics tell otherwise. It’s reminiscent of The Sopranos and The Corleones , but a little less charming and more muscle and grit. The McClellands, on the other hand, may appear to be the weaker of the two, but they are much more cunning and devious, setting the wheels of revenge in motion like clockwork. The Betrayal is a compelling read, especially if you’re into crime family saga where characters have combustible personalities. The overlapping story arcs make for a fascinating read.
