Episode 14 Conversations over Milk & Cookies - Shirley Slaughter

Welcome to Episode 14 of Conversations over Milk & Cookies hosted by Kindle Ninja.

What is this madness, you ask?

It's my way of supporting authors and writers from the RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB

We interact with them everyday, directly through tweets, or indirectly through re-tweets, but we don't really know much about them. Their personalities really don't shine through in 140 characters.

All the EPISODES of Conversations over Milk & Cookies can be found HERE.  Or you can just look to your right and you'll find the Quick Links.

In this episode, we are featuring AUTHOR SHIRLEY SLAUGHTER (@sharrislaughter). She's Rave Reviews Book Club Board Member - Newsletter Coordinator.

Update: Shirley stepped down as RRBC Newsletter Coordinator, but she continues to serve as a member of the Tweet Support Team.

Let's get to know Shirley in more than 140 characters, shall we?

KINDLE NINJA (KN):  Welcome to Conversations over Milk and Cookies.
I know you are lactose intolerant… what should we eat and drink for this episode?
You are so perceptive. I am working on a book about this. My suggestion is leave the milk and cookies off the menu. Seriously, no dairy products! Substitutions do not work in the long run. You have to get completely off. Then you may be able to work a little bit back in on rare occasions, but only if you do everything you need to do to heal your digestive system. I’m working on a book that will address everything I did to get well.

If you were to take a Ninja on a holiday  tour in Michigan. Name 3 stops/destinations.
The Princess Cruise docked on the Detroit River; 2) Detroit Historical Museum; and 3) Tour of Canada through the tunnel bridge.

If you were to put a message in a bottle, what would it be?
“I hope you find this message during my time but just in case you don’t here is some pictures of what life is like in 2014 and a message from me….”

If you were singing in the rain, what song would it be?
“Raindrops keep falling from my head”

And who would you sing it with?
Michael Jackson if he were here. I loved him.

How do you feel about doughnuts without holes?
I never thought much about it. Wouldn’t bother me.

What would you rather be doing now? (instead of answering these questions).
Working on my next book and some blogs.

What’s the best way to decompress?
Curling up in the bed with a good book-a real book.

Can you see your book “Our Lady of Victory” being made into a movie?

It is so weird that you should ask. That is exactly what I want to do. I even tried to write a script but haven’t finished it. I picture it more as a narrative using myself or a well-known actor to tell it. I imagine the cameras moving down West Eight Mile Road heading east to the church in the opening scene while credits are rolling down the screen. Little children are singing and the cameras move in and zoom on the singing.

I still remember the song because it was so beautiful.

He shall feed his flock like a shepherd and He shall gather the lamb in his arms –within his arms…

It all sounds kind of crazy but that’s what is in my head.

If yes, who do you want to star in it?
I remember Harry Belafonte’s daughter Sheri Belafonte had such a beautiful speaking voice. She just now popped into my head. I used to love her commercials on Mastercard. Has to be someone with a wonderful narrating voice. I’m really going way back. I also remember someone who used to belong to my parish who worked for Clear Channel radio station. I loved her voice. But they got rid of her because she was overweight. I would love to resurrect her career.

What’s the book you wished you’d written?
J.K. Rowlings, “Harry Potter” series. That turned out to be the blockbuster of the century.

Which side of the bed do you sleep on?
I have always slept on the right side. I don’t know why that is.

Historical Figure / Personality you’d want to go on a road trip with?
President Barack Obama. He is gorgeous. Sorry Michelle. I think he’s fabulous and under-appreciated by folks with a different agenda.

Where will you go?
England, Hawaii, and Kenya where he was born to learn more about his ancestry which , I believe, would be fascinating.

And what car will you drive?
We would have to travel on Air Force One with the secret service men around of course.

What’s the book that positively shaped you?
Reading the classic “The Greatest Story Ever Told.” I had no idea when I first started to read it that it would be about the life of Christ. I have to include another one: “Killers of the Dream” by Lillian Smith.

Describe your book “Our Lady Victory” in three words.
West Eight Mile

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about life right now?
10

J.K. Rowling or Stephenie Meyer?
J.K. Rowling

Ninjas or Secret Societies?
Ninjas of course!!

Thanks for your time. Hope you enjoyed the Q&A.
I loved it and thank you for having me.
