It's race against time as I attempt to read and review all the books I've purchased this year before 2014 ends!

TBR pile is down to a very manageable level so book-purchase moratorium is lifted. 

For October, the books are about accidental goddesses, warring gods and the mortals caught in between, comet-themed stories, Jazz in the roaring twenties, and a steampunk rat!

Ebert was considered the most influential and powerful film pundit in America. Though I don’t review films, I follow Ebert’s “relative, not absolute" approach when reviewing indie books. But sometimes, authors react as if reviews are absolute truths. The way I see it, a review is really an exercise in reaction and counter-reaction: When a book gets a glowing 5-star review... When a book gets a 4-star review... When a book gets a 3-star review...  When a book gets a 2-star review...      When a book gets a 1-star review  And the ultimate reaction when a book is marked 'DID NOT FINISH' (or DNF) ...

What #PUSHTUESDAY CAN DO to authors and members

#PUSHTUESDAY is one of the brilliant ideas of  Rave Reviews BookClub governing body (I call them the Jedi High Council – Nonnie calls them The Gladiators – either works).  Every Tuesday, a lucky member is selected and gets massively pushed, shoved, and propelled for a full 24 hours in social media sites (primarily, but not limited to, Twitter). The “pushing” is a show of colossal support from members and such show of force has done wonders to authors’ bottomline (whether it be sales or ranking). Whilst we have different criteria on how success is measured, I must say that IN THIS CASE, the measure of success of such exercise (the PUSH) is in authors’ sales rankings. Why? Because it’s easily verifiable if you are actually paying attention. A case in point. Prior to the push, Author A languishes at the bottom ranking just over the millionth mark, and risks sinking lower. It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it? Then comes #PUSHTUESDAY. It's my honor to host Rave Reviews Book Club Spotlight Author of the Week: HILARY GROSSMAN Every day we feel so many emotions... Some are wonderful and some not so much. I don’t know about you, but to me, regret is the worst feeling in the world. I think because I hate the feeling so much is the reason I wrote DANGLED CARAT . Deciding to write a memoir about your relationship with a commitment-phobic man isn’t easy.  Especially when you know that you have to bare your heart and your soul, share your inner most feelings, as well as many embarrassing moments. And don’t get me started on the s-e-x scene!
