Kindle Ninja Review Edition #7  featuring The Reunion, Dangled Carat, and It Lives In the Basement The Reunion (Beneath the Trap Door) by A.A. Pencil 4 / 5 ★★★★ The first chapter of the book introduces the characters – a whole lot of them. Although author A.A. Pencil created quite an ensemble, it’s a struggle to remember them all (but this is more of a reader’s shortcoming rather than a story flaw). It’s a bit of a slow start, but the personality clashes and banters are enough to keep my interest. It’s not established who the core characters are so you’d be in the dark about 90% of the time, which means you’re speculating most of the time (a good thing!). What started as shallow bickerings and embarrassing trips down memory lane, quickly turned into a gruesome murder spree from an unknown assailant. And this is where it gets maddeningly twisted. Kindle Ninja Review Edition #8  featuring The Traveller and Bomber Boy Bomber Boy by Ike Pius ★★★½ Farouk Muttab’s mission to blow up a commercial plane didn’t go as planned, which sets in motion a series of events that has dire consequences to his life, family, and the terrorist group he is connected with. Farouk’s next step is surprising in that it’s uncharacteristic of a terrorist profile, much less of a suicide bomber. He does not quite fall under the category of a religious fanatic nor someone who was brainwashed to do the deed. Such ambiguity makes you question Farouk's real intention. This makes the character even more intriguing and open to different interpretations. Perhaps, it depicts the uncertainty and doubt that men and women in the same situation wrestle with.  The story deals with the sensitive issue of terrorism and how easy it is to switch loyalties when innocent lives are threatened. Kindle Ninja Review Edition #10 featuring Fireflies and Where Blue Birds Fly ' Fireflies' by P.S. Bartlett ★★★ ★ ★ 5/5 The story of the Whelan family is set in the 1800s. It would take absolutely brilliant writing to really take us back in time to a different century – and the writer has achieved this quite impressively.  This is one of those books that has to be read at a leisurely pace so you could appreciate the beauty of the narrative. While it focuses on Ennis’ extraordinary gift, this is as much about his father Owen, who also has a story to tell. This then explains the difficult situation that the family has to come to terms with. The supernatural and paranormal elements are seamlessly combined with 19th century life so vividly imagined.
