What #PUSHTUESDAY CAN DO to authors and members

#PUSHTUESDAY is one of the brilliant ideas of  Rave Reviews BookClub governing body (I call them the Jedi High Council – Nonnie calls them The Gladiators – either works). Every Tuesday, a lucky member is selected and gets massively pushed, shoved, and propelled for a full 24 hours in social media sites (primarily, but not limited to, Twitter).

The “pushing” is a show of colossal support from members and such show of force has done wonders to authors’ bottomline (whether it be sales or ranking).

Whilst we have different criteria on how success is measured, I must say that IN THIS CASE, the measure of success of such exercise (the PUSH) is in authors’ sales rankings. Why? Because it’s easily verifiable if you are actually paying attention.

A case in point. Prior to the push, Author A languishes at the bottom ranking just over the millionth mark, and risks sinking lower. It’s heartbreaking, isn’t it? Then comes #PUSHTUESDAY. After 24-hours of tweets and re-tweets. Author A’s ranking significantly improved and reached the 30,000th mark.

**I reckon, screenshots or it didn’t happen, yeah? Unfortunately, I don’t have screenshots. I didn’t know then that I’d be writing a post about rankings so I didn’t see the need to get a screenshot at that time.

So, I would like previous #PUSHTUESDAY winners to help me out here if they can, before I get pelted with rotten tomatoes.

On the 22nd of April, by some inexplicable reason, I was selected as the winner of #PUSHTUESDAY. I didn’t even have to rig the random name generator!

This changes the statistics game a little bit. Since I am not an author, there’s no book sales to speak of, and no sales ranking to monitor every hour.

But I do have THIS blog. It’s a 2-month old baby ninja blog, largely unheard of. The number of pageviews ranges from nil to 10 per day. It only started to take off when I added the “Conversations over Milk & Cookies” segment. With the reviews and the Milk & Cookies segment, the blog gets between 150 and 200 pageviews per day. It’s not much, but that’s 200 more than nil.

24 hours after the #PUSHTUESDAY campaign, there was a spike in pageviews (and comments).

Like so:

That’s over 1200 pageviews in 1 day of heavy pushing, or six times more than the daily average. The best part is that the pushing goes on until the next #PUSHTUESDAY winner is announced.

But what really impressed me the most is when I finally made it to page 1 of Google search (keyword: Kindle Ninja)

Prior to the PUSH, typing the keyword would direct you to Board Members Kathryn Treat’s blog and Leisl Kaberry’s twitter page. I know for a fact that Leisl has a tribe of Elven re-tweeters, so I’m not surprised. Kathryn, on the other hand, has some serious following.

Meanwhile, my twitter page was on page 2 and the blog was probably in limbo.

Three days after the PUSH, the results changed.

What does this all say? #PUSHTUESDAY works.

AND... Take that! Ninja Turtles!
