Episode 11: Conversations over Milk & Cookies - Dale Furse

Welcome to Episode 11 of Conversations over Milk & Cookies hosted by Kindle Ninja.

What is this madness, you ask?

It's my way of supporting authors and writers from the RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB

We interact with them everyday, directly through tweets, or indirectly through re-tweets, but we don't really know much about them. Their personalities really don't shine through in tweets and re-tweets.

All the EPISODES of Conversations over Milk & Cookies can be found HERE.  Or you can just look to your right (no, your other right) and you'll find the Quick Links.

In this episode, I prepared slightly burnt cookies to serve to Author DALE FURSE  (@DaleFurse) (that's the way she likes it, that' why!).

Dale is the author of the Wexkia Trilogy Books: Book 1 "Curse" and Book 2 "Secret"

Let's get to know Dale in more than 140 characters, shall we?

KINDLE NINJA (KN):  Welcome to Conversations over Milk and Cookies. How do you like your cookies? Chewy? Crunchy? Crumbly? Something else?
Crunchy, definitely crunchy. I even like them burnt a bit around the edges. I know, I live on the wild side sometimes.

If you were to take a Ninja on an Australian holiday tour, where would you go?
Hmm, I would take him to some not-to-be-missed areas, like the great Uluru, a famous red rock in the Northern Territory. The Kimberleys, a true wilderness, in Western Australia and of course, the Great Barrier Reef, the name says it all, in Queensland where I live. To quieten the pace, we’d get a couple of campers and go bush for a while. Being a ninja, I know he’d be up for that.

Has your three-legged dog Zeus ever eaten your manuscript?
Haha. No, I can’t honestly say he has, mind you, he has shaken watery mud all over my notebook, while I’ve been writing in it.

If you were to put a message in a bottle, what would it be?
Cheer up. You’re alive to read this, aren’t you?

If you were singing in the rain, what song would it be?
Here Comes the Rain Again by the Eurythmics

KINDLE NINJA: So baby, talk to me like lovers do...

And who would you sing it with?
The Eurythmics, but assuming they were busy it would have to be Zeus. He loves the rain and playing in murky puddles. That’s why he was wet when he muddied my notebook.

I’d assume I’m the person you’d want to drink Milk with (since you agreed to this interview), but who’s the person you’d want to have coffee with?
Don’t have to think too long on that one. Whoopie Goldberg. I love her. She’s a fantastic performer.

How do you like your coffee?
Black, no sugar.

How do you feel about doughnuts without holes?
I prefer the holey doughnuts with cinnamon sugar ‘cause I don’t like that jam stuff they put in the non-holey ones.

What would you rather be doing now? (instead of answering these questions).
I should be finishing the umpteenth rewrite of Book 3 in the Wexkia trilogy, but I’m on the last pages so can easily spare the time. Plus, it’s the weekend and my brain always falls out pretty quickly on weekends.

What’s the best way to decompress?
I should probably say something like meditate, but a nice glass of red and a few cold prawns does it for me. I know, some would say one drinks white wine with seafood, but like I said, I live on the wild side sometimes.

If your book “Curse” is made into a movie, who do you want to play the main character/s?

That’s a hard one.
Nell looks like Miranda Cosgrove from Summer in School of Rock.
Sam - Jaden Smith from the Karate Kid
Cay-meka – definitely Elle Fanning, best known as Dakota Fanning’s little sister.
The antagonist, Nadar – Vin Diesel, no descriptions necessary.

And who will direct it?
Hmm, I don’t know, probably David Twohy, the director of Riddick.

Your book covers have always featured “eyes” in them. Tell me, what’s the colour of your eyes?
Ha, mine are boring old brown-hazel. They don’t change with my moods and they aren’t big and blue or green or anything.

Speaking of curse, what’s your favourite curse word?
(giggling) I tend to say s*** a lot when I’m not angry, but when I am, well you can guess, lol. Mind you I don’t bother getting angry much anymore. I figure it’s a waste of time.

What’s the book you wished you’d written?
That’s easy. The Hobbit. Read it when I was a lot younger and I wished I was as clever as J. R. R. Tolkien.

Celebrity / Author / Famous Personality you’d want to go on a road trip with?
Again, definitely Whoopie Goldberg. Oh, she might still be tired after our very long coffee date. I’d go with Johnny Depp then.

And what car will you drive?
I think the Jeep Grand Cherokee would do the job nicely.

Describe your book “Curse” in three words.
Racism really sucks (No, it doesn’t have anything to do with vampires)

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about life right now?
Ooh, prob about an 8 and eleven sixteenths I reckon

KINDLE NINJA: Very precise.

Nicholas Sparks or Dan Brown?
Dan Brown

 J.K. Rowling or Stephenie Meyer?
J.K Rowling

Lastly:  Ninjas or Kangaroos?
Oh, that’s not fair. Hang on, you don’t mean to eat, do you? To have at my home, I refuse to choose one above the other. Mind you, I already have ‘Roos at home, but I haven’t seen any Ninjas yet.

KINDLE NINJA: Haha! Ninjas are stealthier than ‘roos.

Thanks for your time. Hope you enjoyed the Q&A.
I truly did enjoy your Q&A. It was fun. Thanks for having me for ‘Conversations over Milk and Cookies’. I’m so glad you had those burnt Anzac bickies. Thin and crispy, just how I love them. You’re a great host.

KINDLE NINJA: I burnt them especially for you!
